Epic Games announced as much in a technical blog post about Fortnite’s launch of its Android beta, with the developer stating that not only have there been upwards of 15 million downloads, but also there are more than 23 million players who entered the trial. Even though the Android beta is currently in an invite-only phase, Epic notes that the conversion from players being invited to playing is actually similar to that of the iOS beta.
There’s no doubt that such a large number of Android users having downloaded the Fortnite beta on their devices is impressive, but what’s even more striking is how so many fans were still drawn in despite the fact that Epic eschewed listing the title on the Google Play store. After all, a lot of people expressed hesitation when it came to having to download an installer as an APK file from Epic’s website, as some fans initially expressed concerns regarding security.
Taking all of this into consideration, while the beta’s successful audience size definitely indicates a high level of interest for Fortnite on Android, it’s worth noting that the beta has also had its fair share of problems. As it so happens, a litany of players reported performance issues shortly after Epic opened up the beta tests from beyond Samsung Galaxy devices. That said, though, it’s important to mention that these kinds of hang-ups typically occur during beta periods. Nevertheless, Epic will hopefully have all the kinks ironed out before it officially releases for Android devices.
Fortnite is available now in early access for iOS, Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, while an Android beta is currently underway.
