The bug in question was originally discovered by the ultra-popular Fortnite Twitch streamer Ninja. While in a battle royale match, Ninja came across another player who was using a recently released character skin celebrating the St. Patricks Day holiday over the weekend. As it turns out, the player character using the special skin actually appeared much smaller than a typical character. Based on the saved clip, Ninja was clearly surprised by the discovery, even though he was still able to take them out.
The news of this bug was a surprise to Epic Games as well, as Nick Chester confirmed on Twitter that this wasn’t the intended effect of the character skin. Chester did have to check with the team, however, as they have been known to be a bit spontaneous with hotfixes, most recently patching a rainbow into the map for the weekend. While the timing couldn’t be more perfect considering the holiday, this bug doesn’t seem to be a widespread issue due to the low number of people reporting it.
While Fortnite hasn’t had too many bugs or glitches to worry about since it launched into early access last July, the game has seen a few big ones pop up over the past few weeks. Update 3.3 not only introduced a lot of great new content for players on both sides of the game, but it also added a few oddball glitches like an issue with how the environment renders. One of the biggest reported issues, however, was a bug that enabled players to pick up unlimited weapons after boogie bombing themselves. While a fix hasn’t been released yet, Epic temporarily removed the bombs from the game to prevent the possibility of players using this glitch to negatively impact battle royale matches.
