Fortnite Players Disappointed As Hurdle Mechanic Returns With Glitches And Bugs

The biggest Fortnite change for Chapter 4 is that it now uses Unreal Engine 5, giving the game a boost in visual power with Lumen, Nanite, Virtual Shadow Maps, and Temporal Super Resolution. New mechanics were also added, such as auto-mantling, which lets players hurdle over lower height objects like fences. Unfortunately, mantling had a few issues that Epic wanted to fix, disabling the feature in December to iron out some of the odd behaviors.

After a couple of weeks, Epic reactivated mantling into Fortnite, though players have discovered that a lot of the pain points and strange behaviors have come back as well, leading many players to question what changed. The main issue that players were running into was that auto-mantling could sometimes launch players high into the air. A Fortnite subReddit user named RoyalMannequin ran into this same issue following the mechanic’s return in the latest patch, getting flung high into the sky while trying to loot a nearby treasure chest. After getting close to the treasure, the mechanic auto-enables and RoyalMannequin takes off far above the map and likely falling to their death.

While there were plenty of sympathetic comments towards the glitch, there were numerous others that shared similar stories after the Fortnite update brought the mechanic back. One user claimed that instead of getting launched, they were flung to a different part of the map entirely. Others claim that it’s ultimately a poorly implemented mechanic regardless of the bugs as the game has trouble determining when to activate which causes some players to auto-mantle off of ledges or buildings. As such, many are calling for it to be removed permanently.

Unfortunately, this isn’t the only new aspect of Chapter 4 which has caused players grief. The newly added Shockwave Hammer, which gave players access to devastating attacks and high mobility, also came with a glitch that let players bounce indefinitely to quickly get places. Naturally, this gave users an unfair advantage and an easy way to pick off other players, prompting Epic Games to remove it as a fix could be made.
